The HPHT process produces laboratory diamonds with the same high pressure and high temperature conditions needed to form natural diamonds deep under the planet. A diamond seed and a carbon source (typically graphite) are inserted into special presses that arrange the carbon atoms according to the diamond structure. In about two weeks, the rough diamond grows and is then processed like natural diamonds.
Chemical Vapor Deposition
This process forms laboratory diamonds from a gas containing carbon. This process takes place inside a controlled low-pressure growth chamber, in which the diamond is grown by inserting and reacting molecules of gas containing hydrogen and carbon, such as methane. The gas is broken down, releasing a cloud of carbon. The carbon is deposited on the diamond and layer by layer, it will form the rough diamond.
